DescriptionA gold medieval finger ring of stirrup shape. The hoop is D-shaped in section and expands into a bezel with an oval shaped setting of a dark blue stone, which is perhaps most likely to be a sapphire.This object is part of the West African Gold group as it is similar to objects featured in the Hidden Histories display in Colchester Castle. Many objects of the period were made from gold from West Africa.
