DescriptionA cardboard pop up book called Rainbow the Cook Pop Up Book by Mafia Stevens illustrated by Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone. The front cover is of a child sitting next to a large bowl of orange liquid and is holding a spoon stirring the liquid. There is also two large ornate glasses or ice cream with a spoon on the floor next to them. The child is dressed in red shoes and spotted trousers which are primarily blue with purple, pink and red dots. The shirt is white and red checks and has a blue and white stripped tie. The child's hair has strips of the different colours of the rainbow. The reverse is of the same child dressed in the same outfit but only waist upwards visible. The child is holding a spoon and looking at a large colourful dessert on a bowl. There are illustrations inside the book by Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone.The object has been identified as part of the LGBT+ collections as it has a character called 'Rainbow'. The rainbow has long been a symbol of the LGBTQ+ community. The pride flag contains six colours of the rainbow, each representing a different theme. Rainbows have also been used on public buildings to identify those that are LGBTQ+ friendly spaces.
