DescriptionClub (gugu) made of wood and leaf binding covering the entire shaft. Fish head top split into three sections with carved lines. This type of club is sometimes referred to as a gunstock club due to its resemblence to a flintlock musket. Sir Cecil Rodwell collection. See 'Fijian Weapons and Warfare' by Fergus Clunie. He says gugu are believed to come from the interior of Viti Levu and are well represented in museums. Little is known about these clubs but they were probably used in ceremonial dances. They are highly collectable and much sort after. Sometimes misdescribed as a Lotus clubs or axe head clubs they were actually named after the butterfly fish. This one has cane binding over the shaft which is rare.
