TitleRaising of Lazarus
-
DescriptionPencil drawing of the Raising of Lazarus copied by Isaac taylor, after Hilton. The object has been identified as part of the LGBT+ collections as it shows a depiction of Lazarus. Lazarus was the youth in the bible that Jesus brought back from the dead. Other than the tenuous connection of Jesus calling on Lazarus to "come out" of the tomb ("coming out" being a term used when LGBT+ people reveal their sexuality or gender identity for the first time), it has been suggested that Lazarus may have had a relationship with Jesus. Many believe he was the "beloved disciple", the one who Jesus had a special relationship with and supposedly ran away, naked, when Jesus was arrested.
