DescriptionAn Iron Age copper alloy stater of Cunobelin, ruler of the Catuvellauni tribe around AD 10-40. This coins two sides both show a stylised animal motif. One side has a prancing horse, with a cross/star motif just above the saddle and an eroded pellet-in-annulet above that. The other side shows a mythological winged creature, likely a griffin, with a raised foot, and the inscription CAMV. This indicates the coin was minted in Camulodunum, or modern Colchester.
