DescriptionA bronze perforated Roman coin. The coin is quite small so may also have been worn excessively around the edge. This may be through use in circulation as currency, or as it was used as an apotropaic (magically protective) amulet.This coin was selected for the Wicked Spirits exhibition as it relates to magical protection. Pierced coins have been worn as a form of magical protection since the Roman period.
