DescriptionThis scrapbook contains postcards, press cuttings and autographs of the players of the 1909 Colchester Pageant. It was held from 21st to 26th June 1909. The event was marked the 2000th anniversary of the foundation of the town. Staged in the grounds of Colchester Castle, it featured the town’s most important, historical events including the discovery of oysters and the first ‘oyster feast’, The Roman conquest, and Boudica’s war against the Romans. The other scenes charted the visits of various Kings and Queens to Colchester. The front of this scrapbook shows Queen Boudica riding a chariot pulled by three horses. The shield of Colchester is in the top left.
