DescriptionMotor fuel ration book. Issued in 1973 as a response to the oil crisis but never needed because a major fuel shortage did not materialise. The organisation of Petroleum producing countries, OPEC, imposed an oil embargo on western countries which had supported Israel during the Arab – Israel Yom Kipur war. Oil prices quadrupled and supply was restricted. The coupons were issued as a precaution against limited supply of petrol . In reality there was no major shortage of petrol which is why the coupons were never used or needed. Mr Daykin had a green mini car at the time which he once drove to Berlin in the late 1960s. He owned the car from 1961 until 1974. It was originally bought for £600 and had a 850cc engine. He has lived at his present address since the 1960s
