DescriptionPhotograph of the boat, Gay Viking. Presumably powered by a Paxman engine. Davey, Paxman and Co Ltd. Taken in 1946.The object has been identified as part of the LGBT+ collections as the subject was named "Gay Viking". Although gay in this context was used to mean happy, we know that Vikings would have had same sex relationships. In fact, in Norse mythology, male characters such as Odin (the king of the gods) had relationships with men.
