DescriptionSmock of coarse olive-green cotton drill with brown embroidered smocking and decoration. Worn by William Green of Little Burstead. Pre 1897. Form: coarse olive green cotton drill smock & knee length & turn down collar, originally stitched down on corners (one still stitched), open front and back & shoulder yokes & sleeves are long and gusseted underarm, with gathered cuffs with buttons & two large buttoned down flapped pockets on the hips. Decoration: all decorative stitching is brown cotton thread & feather stitching on edge of collar & centre front and back panels of bodice are smocked & smocked panels are flanked with feather stitched swirls in a rectangle & feather stitched swirl on each shoulder & smocking on top of each sleeve at shoulder seam & smocked panel on the cuffs.
