DescriptionSmock of coarse olive brown cotton twill. Essex Smock. 1850-1900. Hand stitched smock of olive brown cotton twill with brown embroidery. Reversible - can be worn either way. Deep collar sewn down at the corners, with vee opening back and front, and embroidered decoration. Shoulder yoke with embroidered decoration. Sleeves sewn on with extra gusset under arms, each sleeve has a small patch of smocking at the top and has smocked cuffs that fasten with two metal buttons. Bodice decorated front and back with a central smocked panel with an embroidered design of zigzags and cirlcles either side.Two pockets, one one either side, with flap and button fastening - pocket hangs loose under garment. Small split at bottom in both side seams.
