DescriptionSmock of coarse brown glazed linen (cotton?) with smocked panel front and back, heavily embroidered. 1890-1900? Same front and back, each formed from width of material & large turn down collar decorated with feather stitched zigzag and embroidered half circles - sewn down at points & long sleeves with rectangle of smocking at top by shoulder seam and smocking above the cuff & gusset under sleeves & cuffs fasten with two buttons & central smocked panel on body back and front, with decorative stitching in horizontal lines and diamond pattern & yoke and panels either side of smocking are decorated with half circles, zigzags and wavy lines & two large inset pockets on side of hips, each fastening with one metal button & buttons inscribed 'best ring edge'.
