DescriptionTunic, with belt, and cap of the 6th regiment of the Essex Volunteers. Khaki wool. Circa 1880s. Thick khaki wool & turned down collar with one metal hook and two thread eyes & full length sleeves with cuffs extending in a vee up the wrist & right sleeve has a cloth badge with an embroidered bullet & epaulette on each shoulder fastening with painted leather buttons & badge with 6 EVR embroidered in orange thread on each epaulette & single breasted, with four buttons and five button holes (one button missing) & opening flanked by two appliqued vertical strips of same fabric & patch pocket on each hip with central pleat and buttoned flap & two metal hooks at waist for holding belt up & belt of same fabric fastening at front with two buttons & back has piped seams down the sides and an appliqued vertical strip down the centre back & inside left breast cotton patch pocket. Cap: cap of same colour fabric & flat crown with peak & leather strap around front of cap attached by two studs & Essex Volunteer Regiment Badge on front of cap & two metal eyelet airholes either side of cap & black painted textile hat band inside.
