DescriptionThis is the uniform of a Colonel of the Loyal Colchester Volunteers. It consists of a dark blue wool coatee with red collar, gold plated buttons and tails with cream turnbacks, and a pair of buckskin breeches.c.1810-1830s.main: Dark blue wool coat with cut away front and tails. High stand red wool facecloth collar decorated with a line of stitching and a button either side. Shoulder straps edged with tarnished silver lace, red piping and fastening with small plain button on each shoulder. Full length, shaped sleeves with cuffs edged with red piping and decorated with three gold-plated buttons and button hole stitching. Cuffs fasten with two small self-covered buttons (one detached and one missing on right sleeve). Front opening is straight to centre chest and comes aways at a 45 degree angle to the tails at the back. Opening has curved lapels sewn down by five decorative buttons and button hole stitching. Front fastens by two concealed hooks and eyes. Plain back to hip level where tails begin. Tails have cream turnbacks with an infinity-symbol badge, false pocket flaps at the top edged with red piping and four decorative buttons on each tail with decorative stitching. Two internal pockets in each sleeve.lining: Lined with wool throughout. Sleeves lined with cotton except at cuffs where lined with silk. Buckram interlining in collar.decorative buttons: Buttons are gold plated flat discs stamped with 'LOYAL COLCHESTER VOLUNTEERS' around the outside in a belt border and the Colchester arms in the centre.Coatee, Officer, Loyal Colchester Volunteers, Double breasted.
