DescriptionWoman's suit of jacket and skirt in dark grey fleck and dark green finely striped wool with black silk satin collar and cuffs. Circa 1900-1916. Jacket : dark grey fleck and dark green finely striped wool single breasted fitted jacket with wide reveres and cuffs (80mm) decorated with black silk satin edged in black silk braid. Fastens in centre front with four black silk basket pattern braid covered buttons. Front cut in two panels on each side with top stitched seam & back cut in three panels with top stitched seams. Set in sleeves cut in two pieces to produce shaping. Lined in pale green silk. Skirt : dark grey fleck and dark green finely striped wool made of five panels at the front and three panels at the back with a box pleat effect panel at centre front and centre back & a pocket inset into the back left seam. Fastens with one hook and eye and six poppers at centre back of waist. Hem is decorated with two horizontal rows of top stitching and finished with a grey wool binding with a fringed edge. Lined in dark green glazed cotton. The centre front 'box' panel has been machined down to 18 inches above the hem, to assist walking.
