DescriptionThis pair of black satin shoes with high, rhinestone encrusted heels are typical of the 1920s. This was a decade which saw an increasing freedom and independence for women, something which fashion neatly reflected. This pair of shoes with their glossy black satin uppers and high louis heels encrusted with rhinestones would have perfectly accessorised the shorter length dresses popular in the decade. These were shoes to be seen and would have stood out boldly beneath a knee length skirt and bare legs. Such shoes would have been perfect for dancing in, the sparkling rhinestones would have glittered in the light. These shoes are not branded. We do not know who designed, made or retailed them. However, they are certainly a high-quality pair of shoes, featuring fine craftmanship and hand finished details. The shoes were donated to our collection alongside a 1930s ball dress, whilst the two items are not from the same time period they both represent high fashion from the early twentieth century.Pair of black silk/satin shoes. The heels are covered with diamante stones. Donated alongside a dress from c. 1936, however the shoes are earlier and date to the 1920s.
