DescriptionRed wool tunic with white facings and standard buttons of the Essex Regt- shoulder badges missing. Sergeant's stripes. With forage cap. Circa 1907-08. Red woollen tunic with white stand up collar with two metal badges of the Essex Regiment - collar fastens with a metal hook and eye and has a leather tab under the opening & full length sleeves with white cuffs with an inverted vee extending up the arm - left arm has three white braid chevroned stripes signifying Sergeant & shoulder epaulettes with white braid trim and fastening with brass buttons (badges missing) & single breasted with seven brass buttons with Essex Regiment crest, with white piping at opening & concealed pocket on low waist seam at front right & two metal hooks for belt on waist & back constructed from three shaped panels & centre back panel at bottom with white piping decoration and three buttons sewn on left side (right side buttons missing) & body lined with wool flanel, sleeves lined with cotton sateen & inside left breast pocket with cotton lining. Shoulder flap - detachable, irregular shaped piece of red wool fabric with two button holes, a cloth tab and a hook. Navy forage cap with band fixed on by two black metal buttons at front and hooks at top of points & cream hat band inside with 6111 printed on it & cap has W(arrow)D / 4 / 1908 printed inside.
