DescriptionQueen Victoria's nightdress. Fine white linen nightdress with collar and with a crown and VR39 embroidered on front. Fine white linen handstitched nightdress. Turn down collar with two layers of gathered frills edged in (handmade?) lace. Bottom layer of the frill edges the front opening. The main part of the gown is gathered onto the collar. Shoulder is shaped with two triangular pieces joined with a 2cm wide strip. Main part of the garment is the full width of the fabric. Sleeves have a slight gather where attached at the dropped shoulders, with a strengthening strip around the seam on the inside. Also a tuck just above the cuff, which is edged with the same lace as the collar. The cuff has been tacked to make the opening narrower. Deep front opening coses with one small linen covered button and buttonhole half way down. Two long linen loops at the neck - probably for ribbon. Bottom of the opening has a triangular shaped piece of fabric strengthening. Below this is an embroidered crown and 'VR39' in white thread. Seams are run-and-fell.
