waistcoat, waistcoat

Dark blue velvet waistcoat with all over pattern of ovals in light blue with leaves in dark blue and white. With replacement back piece. Four buttons (one lost). c.1880-1890. Velvet front, navy blue with pattern of ovals in lighter blue with leaves in dark blue and ivory & no collar at back, but with lapels from shoulder seam to fastening & two inset pockets at front waist & centre front fastening of four covered buttons with leaf pattern, one missing & front of waistcoat lined with plain cream cotton, with large inset pocket on left breast fastening with brass button & strip of leather in lining at bottom hem at front & back of silver grey ribbed rayon(?) & waist belt at back fastening with metal clasp, one side missing & back of waistcoat lined with cream rayon(?) with blue stripes & the back piece has been replaced at a later date.
