Hooks and eyes added later addition, perhaps 20th century. Well made. Handstitched. (machine stitching by 1850's). Horizontal striped sleeves. Would have been worn with a matching petticoat and a stomacher. Good representation of the period. Open robe of Lustring silk patterned wth vertical woven stripes of cream, pink and green (horizontal on the sleeves) & low square neckline & front of the bodice is open, meeting edge to edge in the centre, with no fastenings & bodice is lined with linen and there are hooks on the underside of the left side and there are to hooks at the bottom of the right side & sleeves are elbow length with ruffled trim & back of bodice is shaped with sewn pleats and is constructed in the 'robe en forraeu' style - where the back of the bodice is cut in one with the skirt & waist line goes to a blunt v front and back, and the skirt is tightly gathered onto the bodice & skirt is open fronted and constructed from five 22" widths of fabric & there is a deep cream silk lining at the hem & two strings on inside back waist and two loops of linen tape half way down the skirt in corresponding positions that when tied together would give the dress puffed drapery of a polonaise dress & piece of irregular cut out fabric of same material with evidence of stitching
