DescriptionNightdress of white lawn with short sleeves, V-neck and slots for ribbon at waist. Trimmed with lace. 1910-1912. Possibly part of a trousseau with 1971.3.1-.2, 1971.5.1-.3. White cotton nightdress with vee neck trimmed with embroidered cotton lawn tape and machine lace. Upper bodice at front is constructed from four pin tuck panels alternating with three broderie anglaise strips (either side of the opening), above a 5cm deep broderie anglaise waistband with slots for ribbon. Centre front opening fastens with buttons. Back of upper bodice has a square neck edges with machine lace and a central panel constructed from four vertical panels of pin tucks divided by three strips of broderie anglaise. Side panels are of plain cotton. All panels joined with narrow drawn threadwork strips. Short sleeves with inset triangular pin tucked panel on top of shoulders, again attached with drawn threadwork. Sleeves finish with same ribbon as waistband with a lace frill. Skirt below waistband is plain, with French side seams.
