suit, maternity suit

Smart black lace maternity suit consisting of skirt and tunic top. Lined in black satin. Label in back of neck - 'Maxlim Maternity Wear Size 36'. 1960s. Tunic: black picot edged lace (possibly Nottingham) lined with black synthetic satin & wide, high boat neckline & sleeveless, with a slightly extended shoulder line & fastens with a metal zip at the back, and a hook and eye at the neck & lining has a deep hemline of 90 mm. Skirt: black picot edged lace lined with black synthetic satin & straight skirt & waist band is made of synthetic black satin & back skirt panel is plain and is darted at the waist to shape - it show evidence of having been taken in at beck left side & front panel is cut away either side to the hips and functions as a flap over an inner two panels, fastening either side of the waistband with two buttons to allow for expanding waistline & the two inner panels are fixed to the back panel either side of the waist and meet in the middle where they are fastened with two set of black tapes & waistband is made of the black satin lining material & the buttons do not match & two buttons have been removed from the waistband and were possibly moved forward on the waistband for larger adjustment & lining has a deep hemline of 85 mm.
