DescriptionLarge grey-blue velvet hat, with the crown covered with Prussian blue dyed feathers and sewn down dark green silk bow at the back. Black silk lining with drawstring for sizing. Circa 1900-12. Hat constructed of white stiffened buckram with large crown and narrow brim with covering of grey-blue cotton velvet over the crown and top of the brim and dark green cotton velvet on the underside of the brim. Brim is wired. Crown is decorated with Prussian blue dyed feathers covering the crown in swaithes from the back around the front and pointing up. Back is decorated with a wide green silk ribbon in a rouched bow and sewn down. Inside of crown has a band of black cotton velvet and a black silk lining with drawstring. Under the lining is a piece of black silk (upside down) with the makers label printed in gold 'Modes Mesdames Paterson 35 High Street Southend-On-Sea'.
