DescriptionHome Guard uniform consisting of great coat, battle dress jacket, trousers and forage cap - belonged to Major Creed. 13th Essex Home Guard. 1939-1945. Khaki green woollen coat. Large turn down collar and lapels, each with a buttonhole, with a hook and eye to fasten if necessary. Epaulettes on shoulder with rank insignia of crown (major), each fastening with a metal button. Full length sleeves, each with 3 badges at top - 'Home Guard', 'ESX 13' and a diamond with white at top and blue at bottom. Double breasted with eight brass buttons, each with lion insignia. Two flapped side pockets, each on a slight angle. Half belt at back with three buttons and buttonholes, this is attached to the coat at side slits. Buttons held on by brass rings. Vent at centre back bottom fastening with two brass buttons. Interesting top stitching on collar underside and front of coat. Bodice half lined with buff coloured cotton. Sleeves lined with white cotton. small piece of fabric buttons onto inside of coat - can be used to fasten collar when collar standing. Khaki brown wool battle dress jacket. Turn down collar with two hook and eyes to fasten. epaulettes on shoulders with embroidered crown insignia (major), each fastening with one synthetic button. Full length sleeves, each with 3 badges at top - 'Home Guard', 'ESX 13' and a diamond with white at top and blue at bottom. Cuffs fasten with one brass buttons. Single breasted, hidden fastening of three synthetic buttons, and a buckle at the waist. Two breast patch pockets, each with a box pleat. Pockets have flaps and a hidden button fastening. Back of jacket is plain, but with three tucks at waistband either side. Medal ribbon with four ribbons above left breast pocket. Inside - two large breast patch pockets. Back of waistband inside has an extra cotton layer with three button holes to attach tunic to trousers. Khaki brown wool battle dress trousers. Deep waistband with six internal brace buttons and two buttons on the back outside to attach to tunic. Large patch pocket on top of left leg with buttoned flap. Pleated patch pocket on top of right leg. Two pockets in side seams. Large pocket on back right with button flap. Centre front four button fly opening. Label sewn outside on back. This cap does not seem to match the rest of the uniform. It is in much worse condition and the button are different. These buttons have the royal crest
