DescriptionShantung silk pyjama suit consisting of top, trousers and dressing gown with belt. Decorated with a pattern of blue and orange flowers (including crysanthemums), orange, blue and green leaves (including maple leaves) and Japanese bridges on a natural cream background. Dated about 1930. Made in Japan. good example of early trousers for women. Top: T-shirt style top, loose-fitting. Constructed from one piece of fabric with two side seams and a vee shaped hole for the neck. Magyar style short sleeves. Printed pattern around neck and narrow border around sleeve ends. Wide band of pattern around the torso. Trousers: Flat fronted waist, gathered with elastic at back. Very wide legs with 13in coloured border from leg hems. Dressing gown: Kimono style dressing gown. Main body of garment is constructed from one length of fabric (classic Kimono style). With loose fitting sleeves. Facing around neck and front opening. Shoulder, sleeves, facing and bottom of garment all decorated with pattern. Belt of plain silk with cream plastic buckle, with one hand finished hole.
