DescriptionSkirt from two piece brown silk taffeta and cotton velvet dress. Circa 1870s. Part of dress, goes with bodice 1984.162.1. Skirt: Ground length, straight at front to ruched silk and ruched velvet central panel, with piped seam above & velvet band below this, above a pleated silk and velvet hem & pocket in right hand seam & hook and eye fastening at left back on the waist (hook missing) & centre back panel, the bustle, is gathered to the waist and down each & five buttons on underside at back, 23cm from hem, with corresponding cotton tapes, at 39cm and 62cm from hem, to shorten skirt length at the back if desired & muslin lining at back only and a stiffening panel under the pleated panel
