DescriptionDemob suit of blue checked wool consisting of jacket and trousers. Issued to men demobilised from the Forces after the War. 1945. Jacket: Blue checked wool, woven using blue, black, grey and red thread. Double breasted with four tan colour buttons, with inner sag-stopping button. Turn down collar and wide lapels, with a button hole in each. Well padded shoulders and full length sleeves with three buttons at wrist and button holes of differing lengths. Two hip pockets with flaps, one faced breast pocket. Navy sateen lining, blue and white striped lining in sleeves. Inside breast pocket on right. Labelled "118-132 New Oxford Street, London / Montague Burton / The Tailor of Taste / 18-19 Princes Street Edinburgh". Trousers: Blue checked wool, woven using blue, black, grey and red thread. 4cm deep waistband with six buttons on outside for braces and a vee at the back, strengthend at the bottom by machine stitching. Front fly fastening with seven buttons (two on waistband are diagonally placed and face inwards). Two pleats either side of fly under waistband. Two pockets in side seams. One back pocket at right side fastening with a button. Pockets and waistband lined wih natural calico. Wide legs with turn ups (52cm circumference). Utility label in back of waist band - " CC41 X209f"
