DescriptionMan's tailor made suit for a wedding, with black jacket and waistcoat, and grey pinstripe trousers with herring bone pattern. Made in June 1939 for a wedding and was subsequently worn as a dress suit. Donor formerly Mayor of Colchester in 1960-61. Jacket: Black wool mixture herringbone weave. Turn down collar and pointed revers with one button hole. Single breasted with three button fastening. Full length sleeves with three buttons at wrist. Left breast pocket, two hip pockets. Lining of black cotton sateen, with cream striped lined sleeves. Inside right breast pocket and inside left fob watch pocket. Waistcoat: Black wool mixture herringbone weave. Single breasted with five buttons, sleeveless. Same material as jacket at front, black sateen at back. Adjustable straps at back waist, fastening with metal buckle. Four pockets, two at breast and two at waist.Lining similar to jacket sleeves. Trousers: Pin striped grey and black wool mixture material. Waistband with six buttons for braces on the outside and vee cut at centre back. Button fly front fastening, six. Two unpressed pleated at each side at front and two darts at back under waist. Hip pockets in side seams and one back pocket with buttoned flap. Wide legs with turn-ups.
