dress, two-piece dress

Two piece green striped silk dress. With lace decoration and large leg-o'mutton sleeves. In poor condition. Labelled 'Modes Robes et Confections, Maison Emmerechts(?), La Haye' on. 1894-97. Bodice: Coat style, unboned at front. 2.5" stand collar, with three brass hooks and eyes to fasten. Long, large leg-o'mutton sleeves; hook and eye fastening at wrist with hand made continental lace cuff resembling needlepoint lace. Vee shaped gap at front of bodice where stand collar does not join bodice. Underbust darts. .Back of bodice tabbed to fit over padded skirt below waist and decorated with same lace as above. Back of bodice has five 7 whalebones. Inner waist belt attached, no fastenings visible, with makers label. Bodice has been altered at some time and front relined with 20th century green Rayon. Original red silk lining still visible at back. Skirt: Ground length, seven gores. Hook and eye fastening and tapes at back. Unlined, slight train. Straight front, gathered back for fullness over bustle.
