White organdie, smock-like dress, possibly a night dress, decorated with painted poppies and buds. Dated about 1900-1920. Long smock-like garment. Round neckline with band of ruched white ribbon popular in 19th Century. Drawstring of white tape at centre back. Long tight sleeves with cuffs of Valencienne lace insertion with pink velvet ribbon. Yoke of bodice painted in oil with pink poppies and buds at front insertion back and front. High waistline.centre back opening down to hip level fastened with large hooks and cotton loops covered with buttonhole stitch and tied at high waistline with white tape drawstring. Full skirt gathered onto yoke. Lower part of skirt decorated with oil painted pink and green double poppies and buds in clusters. Unusual garment maybe foreign. Might be a negligee.
