DescriptionChemise and Nightdress made by the donor's grandmother. Nightdress of fine cotton with fine pintucks and lines of pulled thread work. White cotton chemise with vertical pin tucks over the bust, trimmed with lace and decorated with feather stitching. 1895. Niightdress: White cotton nightdress with collar of two frills of machine lace edged cotton lawn. Centre front opening from neck to waist fastened with three linen covered buttons. Opening flanked by frill of cotton lawn with lace trim and feather stitching. Either side of opening decorated with fine vertical pin tucks and two lines of drawn threadwork. Back of nightdress has five box pleats from the neck, for fullness. Sleeves are gathered into the top of the shoulders. Sleeves have double frilled lawn cuffs with machine lace trim - above the frill is a line of drawn thread work with holes for a ribbon. Each side seam has an inserted triangular gusset. Chemise: White cotton chemise with short lace trimmed sleaves. Square necklinedecorated with two rows of feather stitching and trimmed with lace. Back of chemise is gathered into the neckline at top. Twenty two vertical pink tucks over the bust. Centre front opening fastening with one linen covered button. Gores in bottoms of side seams.
