DescriptionCopper alloy helmet and breast plate as worn by Mrs Evelyn Gibson portraying Boadicea at the 1909 Colchester Pageant. Copper Alloy. Made by A. Fisher of Colchester in 1909.helmet: The helmet is a skull cap with two conical 'horns' on either side. Around the rim of the helmet is a curling vine motif which, at the front of the helmet, turns into a stylized face with two large eyes and two small nostrils. The eyes look as if they had something set in them. Based loosely on the horned helmet found in the River Thames at Waterloo Bridge now in the British Museum.breast plate: The breast plate is made of two seperate pieces of circular copper alloy decorated, around the rim, with the same decoration as the helmet. These metal pieces are joined by a series of textile straps that would have also been used to attach the breast plate to the wearer. Attached to the straps that would have been at the front of the body are five small metal circles decorated with a cross on a red background.
