DescriptionRed velvet case containing six ivory manicure/toilet implements, incomplete. C.1880. Flat six sided box with hinged lid and metal clasp. All covered with red velvet, except lid lining of pink silk and base of black leather effect paper. Inside lid that three loops created by card lined red satin strip sewn down in four places. Base has a strip of velvet in a similar fashion but the stitching has come away in places. Contains six small implements, not necessarily originally from the same set - 1. A metal pointed implement with an ivory handle, 90mm long. 2. A smaller metal pointed implement with an ivory handle with a metal finial, 65mm long. 3. Ivory handle (with metal finial) with a metal implement - 'lid' unscrews to loosen a four point grip inside (similar to an old fashioned screwdriver), 68mm long. 4. Ivory nail file with one pointed end and one curved end, with metal file in centre, 85mm long. 5. Ivory 'orange stick', long thin implement with point at one end and flat edge at other, 95mm long. 6. Small metal 'dumb bell' shaped implement - thin metal centre with small roound ends. Missing contents but this probably happened before it came to the museum.
