Replica of a nurse's uniform that would have been worn at Essex County Hospital in the 1950s. In two main parts - dress and apron. Used in Colchester Museum's Empire of Care Exhibition, it is covered with ironed-on photographic images from former nurses at the Hospital. 2008.
Dress: white linen/cotton blend dress & elbow length sleeves with detachable button fastening turn backs & detachable collar, fastens with three buttons & hidden four button fastening at centre front on bodice of dress & flap over front of bodice, attaching to left shoulder with four poppers & popper at centre waist & two hook and eyes at bottom of flap (waist at left) & zip from left side waist to half way down skirt & small pocket at breast under front flap.
Apron: white cotton/lined blend apron & full skirt that fastens with two button at rear of waist & bib stretching from waist band to collar at front, no method of fastening to dress - would require safety pins.
