DescriptionWhite nylon bustier (corset) with lace cups and pale blue ribbon decoration. 'Romantic You by Silhouette'. Bought in Edinburgh. Worn by donor at her wedding on 17th July 1964. The bustier, or strapless bra, is a good example of post WWII undergarments designed to shape the body. Strapless dresses were very fashionable in the 1950s and required supportive underwear. This 1960s example has circular stitching on the bra cups to provide the fashionable breast shape. The bustier is constructed from two panels of nylon bisected by a vee shaped panel of white lace at the front, two elasticated side panels and two nylon back panels. The underwired bra cups are of white lace with spiral stitching from centre outwards. The lace panel and top of the cups are edged with lace with a blue ribbon woven through. There is a blue bow at centre of bust. The bustier fastens at the back from top to bottom with a single line of 11 metal hooks and a double row of 11 metal loops. There are four suspender loops on the bottom of the garment.
