DescriptionParliamentary robes of Charles Abbot, 1st Baron of Colchester, and later of Lord Keyes. Circa 1817 but with alterations in the 1940s. Full length red wool robe trimmed with ermine and rabbit fur, metal thread lace and lined with white rayon. See painting of Charles Abbot for reference. Full length red tabby weave wool robe with symbolic hood and V-shaped opening decorated with tightly woven double sided lace at front. Collar decorated with ermine fur and fastened with black grosgrain rayon ribbon. Robe decorated with horizontal bars of gold coloured braid (or lace) and ermine fur. White rayon lining. Parchment label under hood.
