DescriptionTop plate of a dagger pommel, engraved with a design of a mounted knight in armour, surrounded by foliage and flowers. The knight is facing left. The roundel is pierced at the top and centre. The object has been identified as part of the LGBT+ collections as it depicts a knight. There are historical accounts across Europe of knights entering into marriages with one another. The ceremonies were identical to weddings, with slightly different wording used to refer to the male partners. This was so common that it made it into literature at the time, such as the Arthurian stories of Lancelot and Galehaut, as well as in the novel Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
