DescriptionAn inscribed bronze plaque. This is the lower right hand corner of the first plate of a military diploma. This is part of the discharge papers of an auxiliary soldier, granting him Roman citizenship and the right to marry legally. Curators have suggested this may belong to a soldier named Saturninus. Reference to a soldier named Saturninus has linked him to Gloucester where he served in a Spanish unit, the Cohort I Fida Vardullorum. He was discharged at Colchester during the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius. This may be a copy of his discharge documents, though it is hard to know due to it being incomplete.
