mortar, cosmetic mortar

This copper-alloy Roman cosmetic set is decorated with bulls' heads at each end. This crescent-shaped 'mortar' would have been paired with a rod-like 'pestle'. Cosmetic sets would have been used to grind powders, probably mineral colourings for the face.
