DescriptionA lobster-tail helmet, supposedly belonging to Sir Charles Lucas, that originally hung over his tomb in St Giles Church. This was the common helmet of the royalist troops during the English Civil Wars, though also common among troops across Europe.The 1648 Siege of Colchester lasted 73 days before the Royalist surrendered. Two of their commanders were executed at the site now marked by an obelisk in Castle Park, one of whom was Sir Charles Lucas.
