DescriptionThis is the left hand part of a socketed base for a statuette. It is a rectangular piece of marble with a bevelled edge. Inscribed on one side, in roughly cut letters, is the word 'DEO', meaning "To the god...". The fourth letter is broken but begins with a sloping stroke, suggesting it could be either A for Apollini (Apollo), M for Mercurio (Mercury) or Marti (Mars).
