DescriptionThe inscription on this gold ring commemorates I.K. who died on the 4th January '67. Based on the style of the ring it was probably made in 1667. It is decorated with a skull as a constant reminder of death, known as memento mori. The skull may once have been enamelled black and there are traces of white enamel in the lozenge pattern decorating the exterior of the hoop. A makers mark - BW - is inscribed in a rectangular shield.
