DescriptionVessel made of fired clay with a brown glaze. Large, flattened oval, round-bottomed vessel with two spouts at either end and one hole on the top (saqa vonu). Four legs and a nose, resembling a turtle. Decoration of incised lines on upper half, perhaps illustrating a spine and ribs or the turtle's shell. The legs show historic conservation. From Sir Cecil Rodwell GCMG, a British colonial administrator, Governor of Southern Rhodesia, British Guiana, and Fiji (1918-1924). Handwritten note with one of the pots: 'Fijian pottery/Infant Chief's toilet set/presented to Governor Sir Cecil Rodwell/on the birth of his youngest son in Fiji, 1923'.
