DescriptionClub (waka) made of straight piece of wood carved at the top with nodes or knots. Lengths of plaited vegetable and coconut fibre binding wrapped around the whole length of the shaft. Some zigzag carving left unbound on grip. Stuck-on label perishing: 'War club Fiji Islands Capt Haines R.N.'. See 'Fijian Weapons and Warfare' by Fergus Clunie. Exceptional condition, as good as when made. May have been made more decorative with fibres later for use in dances. One of the clubs given in December 1847.
