DescriptionClub (waka) made of straight piece of wood, and carved natural nodes or knots at the top. Lengths of plaited vegetable and coconut fibre binding wrapped at intervals along the length of the shaft. The binding at the top near the head includes feathers. Some zigzag carving left unbound on grip. Stuck-on label perishing: 'South Sea Islander's War club Presentd by Capt D. Jeffries'. Marked in pencil: 'Capt D Jeffries'. See 'Fijian Weapons and Warfare' by Fergus Clunie. Exceptional condition, as good as when made. May have been made more decorative with fibres later for use in dances.
