DescriptionCeremonial adze made of wood, openwork haft of typical design and coconut fibre plaited binding. No blade, instead a wooden blade (b), separate. Fourteen feet, one missing. A small piece of fish skin was used to secure the blade to the haft, under the fibre lashing. Index card: Note the 1938.1.123 dd card says 'stone blade missing' but [Rev William Wyatt] Gill refers to wood heads as used in carpenters funerals for digging up the ground in a dramatisation of grief.
