DescriptionOrnament made of rectangular pearlshell pieces with four holes holes drilled on each allowing them to be strung onto two-ply twisted coconut and vegetable fibre cord. One shell broken in half. Part of a Tahitian mourner's costume? Index card says: 'Headdress of New Zealand, Chief's wife, 2 rows of rectangular plates of mother of pearl, Maori' and in pencil 'Labelled as Caroline Isles.'
