DescriptionA Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age flint arrowhead, dating to the years 2,500-1,500BC. This form of arrowhead is associated with the Beaker phase of the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age, 2,500 BC-1,500 BC. Several other arrowheads and other flint material of a similar date have been found in the same area as this, suggesting there was a lot of activity in the area during the late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age. It is possible there were itinerant communities landing in the area around what is now Harwich, before travelling across Britain, or indeed settling down in the area. This object was originally brought into the museum by the donor's father in 1950 to be identified by the curator at the time, Rex Hull. In a letter associated with this object (COLEM:2023.92) it was identified as Late Neolithic or Bronze Age, but returned to the finder. In the letter, its significance was remarked upon and asked if some day it might be donated to the museum. The finder's son, subsequently donated the object to the museum, along with the original letter written by Rex Hull.
