DescriptionDaniel Gardner was a portrait artist from the Lake District who befriended the young Constable in Ipswich at the home of Elizabeth Cobbold in 1796. He also produced a portrait of Constable that can be seen in the V&A collection. This painting came from the collection of Lionel Constable, 1896; Then purchased by Sir Cuthbert Quilter 1909 and acquired for Ipswich with funds from the Felix Cobbold Bequest.
