Two gouache sketches of a man and a woman wearing costume dating from 1640. The man wears a black hat with a feather, a coat of pale green trimmed with lace, as are his breeches. The woman's also wears a large brimmed dark red hat with a feather. The neckline of her dress is white lace, and the grey dress is trimmed in green and red. Handwritten in the centre top is 'English' and to the right '1640'. Notes record that the man's costume has 'Lace collar doublet tight fitting & small waisted /Slashed sleeves'. Whilst the notes by the women's dress record 'High waisted /Silk taffeta worn'.
